Charm, Location and History
Welcome to 2248 Encinal Avenue – a lovely c.1903 Victorian in the heart of Alameda’s Bronze Coast. Owned by the same family since 1957, this was home to generations of local choir directors who filled it with love and song.
With high ceilings and charming architectural features, this inviting home features three bedrooms and one full bathroom on the main level, an updated kitchen with granite countertops and stainless appliances, glowing flooring and loads of natural light. The spacious entry could easily accommodate a home office or quiet reading nook. The living room boasts a center-room fireplace, adjacent an eat-in kitchen and dining room combo. Remove the fireplace and you could have a beautiful open-concept area that opens out to the back deck, patio and yard. There’s even a full laundry room, downstairs.
The front bedroom, quietly tucked off the living room, overlooks Encinal Avenue. The other two bedrooms are towards the middle and rear of the house, with the bathroom in between.
A long, gated driveway allows for many off-street parking spaces—including room for a boat!—leading to a back yard perfect for play, entertaining or gardening.
On the street level, with separate entrance, is an amazing, finished basement that’s nearly as big as the ‘main house’ above, and with a half bathroom and other sizeable rooms. Used by the seller’s family in years gone by as a kitchen, living room and bedrooms, it has significant renovation potential!
Grab a cup of coffee and relax out on the front porch—a perfect place to start your day!
Across the street from Alameda High School, 2248 Encinal is perfectly located just blocks from Park Street shops and restaurants, Crown Beach, Trader Joe's, Tucker's Ice Cream (if you know, you know!) and some of the most beautiful tree-lined streets for your evening meandering.
It’s a wonderful blend of history, convenience and tranquility, and ready for you to call home.

Neighborhood
Alameda began as a peninsula just south of Oakland and is now an East Bay island with a laid-back feeling all its own. You will find a variety of homes and condos for sale in Alameda from cozy apartments and spacious single-family homes to gorgeous estates with croon-worthy original details intact. With more than 10,000 buildings constructed before 1930, there is a rich and varied architectural heritage in our neighborhoods. Historic Queen Anne's, ornately decorated Victorian's, and California Craftsman's are some of the most desirable homes here along our tree-lined streets. It's no wonder the speed limits are so slow!
On its own little island, the city has a well-known, laid-back vibe. With only 80,000 residents, Alameda's population density is less than half of San Francisco's, and similar to the density found in Oakland. Ready to explore the area? Alameda is incredibly walkable. When locals want to take in the various shopping, landmarks, museums, and dining, they usually head to Park Street. Start your day with a visit to the Alameda Museum. Since 1948, the museum has preserved the rich history of this unique island city and offers both locals and tourists an opportunity to learn more about the great island of Alameda. After a day at the museum, there's plenty of great food around, from independent coffee/pastry shops (Crispian Bakery; best ginger cookie around!), to the Alameda Marketplace (butcher, baker, candlestick maker here), with both casual and fine dining nearby. Civic pride runs high in Alameda, and many of the city’s older buildings have been fully restored or repurposed. The Alameda Theater on Park Street was restored to its art deco glory, while the Alameda Free Library was transformed from the Carnegie Library into a multimillion-dollar showplace that earned a Silver LEED certification.
Love the outdoors? Alameda is also a great place for outdoor activities, with its many parks, public shorelines, and designated slow streets. Head to Crown State Beach for wind-surfing or just taking a morning run along the water's edge. Alameda humbly boasts a vibrant atmosphere with plenty of festivals and activities to enjoy. Their 4th of July Parade is one of Alameda's trademark events, and features horse-drawn carriages; it truly embodies the small-town feel of Alameda. Other popular events and festivals (that we hope reopen again soon!) in Downtown include a Spring Festival in May and a Classic Car Show in October.
No matter the time of year, there is always something fun happening in Alameda.
